Does Your Pedicurist Use Proper Sterilization and Sanitation Techniques? Are They Certified?
Your pedicurist needs to be concerned about proper sterilization so they don’t spread infections. Good pedicurists sterilize all of their implements in an autoclave; a device that uses steam under pressure to kill all bacteria, viruses, fungus and spores on their surfaces. Many health conscious pedicurists use an e-file also with a vacuum system, and then autoclave the bits. They should use only single-use files and buffers for each pedicure. The Kentucky state board does not require salons to sterilize their implements in this way but we feel that it just makes sense to go above and beyond to provide a safe and healthy atmosphere for clients. A waterless pedicure is another way to ensure proper sanitation since it ensures that your feet remain properly hydrated and avoid bacteria that can thrive inside whirlpool tubs.
What Certifications Does Your Pedicurist Hold?
Some of the certifications that pedicurists’ will have include Medical Nail Technician (MNT) certification, an Advanced Nail Technician (ANT) certification, and a Podiatry Medical Assistant (PMA) certification. Medical technicians can perform safe cosmetic pedicures on people who are healthy or chronically ill suffering from controlled diabetes, arthritis, psoriasis, thyroid disease, people taking or that have taken chemotherapy or radiation, and other health issues.
